Health Watch is an electronic publication of the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA), an organization dedicated to providing the truth about health, wellness and total well-being.
First published in January 1999, Health Watch has carried reports of scientific and medical research exposing the dangers of medical therapies and procedures and positive news about non-medical wellness care.
Selected articles from previous year's publications are included in the Health Watch archives.
"The main purpose of the WCA Health Watch is to provide accurate and documented articles about health care that are not readily available through mainstream news media," explains Terry A. Rondberg, DC, founder and CEO of the World Chiropractic Alliance. "Too often, such reports are suppressed by the billion-dollar drug industry which funds -- through its extensive advertising -- much of what we see on television and in the print media."
Every attempt is made to include accurate and verifiable documentation for each story, including links to research papers and/or institutions providing primary source material.
Terry A. Rondberg, DC, has been an influential figure in the chiropractic profession since 1986, when he founded and published The Chiropractic Journal, which continues to serve as a major source of chiropractic information.
In 1989, he founded the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA), serving as its first president for more than a decade. He currently is the CEO of the organization.
Dr. Rondberg has written numerous articles on chiropractic for the profession and the public, as well as several best-selling books, including "Chiropractic First," "Under the Influence of Modern Medicine," and (co-authored with Timothy J. Feuling) the "CBS Malpractice Prevention Program," and "Chiropractic: Compassion and Expectation."
The World Chiropractic Alliance was founded in 1989
by Dr. Terry Rondberg as a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and strengthening chiropractic around the world.
Serving as a "watchdog" and advocacy organization, it places an emphasis on education and political action. With members throughout the United States and in numerous foreign countries, the WCA is constantly being alerted to situations and events which might affect the practice of chiropractic.
Since its inception, the WCA has played an important role in the global chiropractic community. In 1998, it was granted status as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information.
The Chiropractic Journal was started in 1986 in response to a widespread demand for a professionally edited newspaper which would present news and features of interest to all segments of the chiropractic profession.
At that time, chiropractic was at a crossroads. One path led to chiropractic duplicating medical diagnostic procedures, and limiting chiropractic as merely another medical "therapy" used to treat musculo-skeletal symptoms or diseases. The other path led chiropractic into a unique paradigm as a subluxation-based health care field focused on the detection and correction of subluxation (nerve interference) for lifetime family wellness care.
The Chiropractic Journal was the first chiropractic newspaper to openly serve as an advocate for subluxation-based chiropractic while maintaining high journalistic standards. It employed experienced journalists to report news in an unbiased and accurate manner and welcomed input from all perspectives. It immediately won the respect of a large portion of the profession.
Today, most chiropractors have chosen the path away from disease and towards health, informing consumers to choose chiropractic first, before drugs or surgery. They have chosen to follow the same path as The Chiropractic Journal -- and the Journal has become an important companion on their journey.
The three-fold mission of The Chiropractic Journal has not changed since it was founded:
