CBS Malpractice Insurance Program chooses new underwriter

Recently, some members of the Chiropractic Benefit Services (CBS) Malpractice Insurance Program received a letter from its former underwriter, saying it would not be renewing the policies.

To quote from Douglas Adam's famous "Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy," -- DON'T PANIC!

Actually -- long before the letter was mailed -- CBS had foreseen the impending problems with its old underwriter and taken steps to make sure it continued to protect all its member doctors by relocating the program to TIG Insurance Company.

TIG has close to 90 years of experience in the property-casualty line of insurance. Started in 1911, TIG has a century of offering the finest insurance products available.

Its experience in niche markets like chiropractic, coupled with technical expertise, makes TIG the perfect vehicle to take the CBS Malpractice Insurance Program to the next level of insurance services.

At a time when many companies are going out of business or eliminating their chiropractic malpractice insurance program, it is important to affiliate with a company that is solid, has significant assets, and a proven track record of defending doctors. TIG is that company.

When TIG was acquired by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, a Toronto-based financial services holding company, in April of 1999 it went from a $6 billion company to one with assets of around $32 billion. With an "A" rating from both A.M. Best and Duff & Phelps, TIG is a financial powerhouse. CBS doctors can have peace of mind TIG will always be there for them.

By switching to TIG, CBS Malpractice Insurance Program was able to lower its rates in AL, AR, AZ, LA county in CA, CO, GA, HI, IA, ID, Cook county in IL, KS, MA, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX and WI. The majority of states not included here are states where CBS already offers extremely competitive rates.

In addition to new rates, CBS is now offering discounts for doctors who have practiced more than five years without a claim.

Other discounts include:

bulletcontinuing education discounts;
bulletrisk management discounts;
bulletinternational, national and state association membership discounts;
bulletlarger part-time discounts (50% discount) including a new "super part-time" for those who practice 10 hours or less (75% discount) and newly licensed discounts ranging from 25-75% off the yearly premium.

CBS Malpractice Insurance Program already boasted the broadest coverage in the nation, and TIG has gone the extra mile to make sure every policy holder is covered for defense costs associated with a professional board dispute.

It is also the only program in the nation covering the defense of sexual misconduct allegations, as well as the only one offering a "consent to settle" clause that gives policy holders the right to choose whether or not a claim is settled or defended.

CBS safeguards its insured with a bulletproof underwriting criteria -- the CCP’s "Vertebral Subluxation in Chiropractic Practice" guidelines. Every malpractice insurance company has to cover policy holders for whatever is covered under their state's scope of practice law. However, scope of practice laws are very broad and can often be misinterpreted. That's why CBS takes it one step further by ensuring doctors the right to adjust every man, woman and child, regardless of age or medical necessity.
