JVSR publicizes need for chiropractic research
The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) is helping raise
public awareness of the need for research into the many ways chiropractic can improve
women's health. The peer-reviewed journal, available by subscription on the Internet,
distributed a press release to two major medical and scientific news organizations based
on an original research report authored by Madeline Behrendt, D.C., co-chair of the World
Chiropractic Alliance Council on Women's Health and published in JVSR.
The press release summarized Dr. Behrendt's position that the medical industry
too often views normal female cycles and functions as diseases requiring medical
intervention. "Drugs are now utilized to interfere with the multiple bodily
experiences unique to womanhood such as menstruation," Behrendt states.
In the release, Behrendt calls for increased research and research funding into
the impact of vertebral subluxations on, and the role of chiropractic in, women's health.
"We feel it's important that these messages get out through the mainstream
media," stated Matthew McCoy, D.C., JVSR editor. "Publishing research
on vertebral subluxation is important for the chiropractic community, but JVSR
strives to go one step further and reach other health professions, government officials
and the public. We work to make sure news of chiropractic research is disseminated to the
largest possible audience."
