WCA Summit Agenda

Thursday March 1, 2001 -- Washington Welcomes Subluxation-based Chiropractors!

Noon -  5pm: Registration begins, Washington Court Hotel.

5 - 7 pm: A special reception in the Mansfield Room of the Senate Building. Dozens of top Washington dignitaries have been invited and we expect a solid turnout of Senators and House Members. Come "meet and greet" the legislators who will help us promote and safeguard subluxation-based chiropractic through effective and fair legislation in the coming session. Bus transportation to the Senate Building will be provided and photojournalists will be on hand to commemorate this historic occasion. Note: Registration is limited for this event and will require prior security clearance. If interested in attending, contact the World Chiropractic Alliance at 800-347-1011 by February 10.

Friday March 2, 2001 -- Legislative & Leadership Day / Global Activities

This is a tentative schedule and includes all invited guests and speakers. Speaking reservations have not yet been confirmed and the list of actual speakers and guests, as well as presentation topics, are subject to change.

9 - 9:30 am: Opening remarks by Dr. Terry A. Rondberg, President, World Chiropractic Alliance.

9:30 - 10 am: Keynote speech. The role of chiropractic care in the overall American health system -- Secretary of Health & Human Services or representative.

10 -10:30 am: Welcome from the House of Representatives. Invited to speak: Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Tex.), Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.), Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), and Minority Whip David Bonior (D-Mich.).

10:30 - 11 am: Welcome from the United States Senate. Invited to speak: Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), Majority Whip Don Nickles (R-Okla.), Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), and Assistant Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

11 - 11:30 am: The role of the federal government in promoting chiropractic research. Invited to speak: Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), Chairman of the Senate HHS Subcommittee on Appropriations; Sen. Ernest Hollings (D-S.C.); and Rep. Ralph Regula (Ohio), Chairman of the House HHS Subcommittee on Appropriations.

11:30 - noon: Chiropractic care and Medicare. Invited to speak: Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee; Sen. John D. Rockefeller, IV (D-W.Va.), ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Health; and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), ranking member on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee.

Noon - 12:30 pm: Chiropractic care in the military and veterans affairs. Invited to speak: Sen. Tim Hutchinson (R-Ark.), Chairman of the Personnel Subcommittee, Senate Armed Forces Committee; Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.), ranking Democrat, Personnel Subcommittee, Senate Armed Forces; Committee; and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.

12:30 - 2 pm: LUNCH

2 - 2:30 pm: How to impact the public policy debate in the U.S. Senate. Invited to speak: Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), Deputy Majority Whip.

2:30- 3 pm: The impact of the 2000 elections on health care policy in the U.S. Invited to speak: Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.).

3 - 3:30 pm: Chiropractic and the role of the National Institutes of Health. Invited to speak: Ruth L. Kirchstein, acting Director, NIH, and William R. Harlan, Associate Director, Office of Disease Prevention.

3:30 - 4 pm: Chiropractic care and its place in American history. Invited to speak: Sen. Orin Hatch (R-Utah) member of the Health Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee.

4 - 5 pm: The importance of chiropractic educational standards. Fabrizio Mancini, D.C., President Parker College of Chiropractic.

5 - 6 pm: The work of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Veronica Gutierrez, D.C., the sole chiropractic representative on CAM .

6 - 7 pm: Chiropractic intraprofessional cooperation and legislative affairs. Patrick Gentempo, D.C.

Saturday March 3, 2001 -- The Learning Never Stops

9 - 9:30 am: Dr. Terry A. Rondberg, President, World Chiropractic Alliance.

9: 30 - 10:30 am: Examining chiropractic research and techniques. Matthew McCoy, D.C, Editor Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research.

10:30 - 11:30 am: Chiropractic pediatrics: caring for the world's children. Drs. Stuart and Theresa Warner.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Public education and risk management. Timothy Feuling, Vice President of the World Chiropractic Alliance.

12:30 - 2 pm: LUNCH

2 - 3 pm: Honoring and remembering B.J. Palmer. Clair O'Dell, D.C. and others who knew B.J. -- an open mike tribute to the developer of chiropractic.

3 - 4 pm: "The Big Idea ... A vision of world-wide wellness from your practice to Capitol Hill. David Jackson, D.C.

4 - 5 pm: A special presentation by Dr. Karl Pribram, one of today's most influential scholars in the study of the mind-brain relationship.

5 - 6 pm: Chiropractic philosophy. Fred Barge, D.C.

6 - 7 pm: Chiropractic's role in global wellness. Christopher Kent, D.C., will discuss the WCA's working relations with the World Health Organization and his work as the Main NGO representative to the United Nations Department of Information.

Sunday March 4, 2001 -- Reviving the Spirit

9 - 10 am:  Topic to be announced. Dave Mager.

10 - 11 am: "A Totally New Vision." Drs. David Jackson and Patrick Gentempo.

11 - noon: Feedback from the WCA International Board of Governors; "One-Minute Comments," and close. Dr. Terry A. Rondberg.
