WCA takes issue with Walgreens' anti-chiropractic website report
When the World Chiropractic Alliance was informed that the Walgreens' website contained a report on
back pain that advised patients (among other things) to make sure they
only see a chiropractor after talking with their medical doctor first,
we sprang into action and penned a strong letter of protest to Walgreens'
president. Although its pharmacy accounts for a large portion of the
company $30 billion a year in sales, the WCA also knows that 60,000
doctors and students around the country -- and millions of patients,
families, and supporters -- can have an impact. Click
here to read the Walgreens letter.
The WCA will also contact the Mayo Clinic and attempt to get them to
revise their back pain report, although it is evident that it has a vested
interest in discouraging people from seeing chiropractors.
Whenever the WCA is informed of this kind of negative reporting on
chiropractic, we immediately respond with documented information,
persuasive arguments, and offers to provide more accurate material. We
also make it clear that, if the situation warrants it, we can mobilize a
large portion of the profession behind an effective "punitive"
action or -- if reasonable dialogue fails -- create negative publicity for the offending company. In the
past, we have been able to educate many reporters, editors and business
leaders to present chiropractic in a fair and honest manner. It is
surprising how many of them do not know about the seemingly never-ending anti-chiropractic campaign waged by the medical profession.
In addition to the letter to Walgreens, the World Chiropractic
Alliance has responded to other negative reports on chiropractic,
including a medical segment on FOX News in which a doctor warned a patient
not to "let a chiropractor touch your neck," since it was so
"dangerous." Despite almost overwhelming evidence to the
contrary, the medical profession is still telling the public that
chiropractic care can cause stroke. If any of your patients express
concern about this, be sure to provide a copy of the World Chiropractic
Alliance Position Paper on Chiropractic and the Risk of Stroke (available
online at www.worldchiropracticalliance.org/positions/stroke.htm).
