New book focuses on spiritual side of BJ Palmer

Although best known for his writings on the art, science and philosophy of chiropractic, BJ Palmer left a rich legacy of literary work discussing his views on God, prayer, religion, death and reincarnation, Innate Intelligence, and other spiritual topics.

A new book by Simon A. Senzon, MA, DC, of Asheville, N.C. -- "The Spiritual Writings of B.J. Palmer" -- accomplishes the task of compiling these spiritual writings in a single volume. Dr. Senzon, co‑founder of The Chiropractors for an Integral Philosophy, received his MA degree in philosophy from Goddard College in 1994 and his chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in 1999. His articles have appeared in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) and Chiropractic History.

In the preface to the book, Senzon explains that the writings contained in his book represent a distinct period of Palmer's life, from 1949‑61. During that time Palmer published 15 books totaling 8,045 pages.

"I have chosen what I think to be the crest jewels of the 'Green Books.' I present this material with no apologies. BJ Palmer was at times prophetic, and sometimes abrasive. His insights, although written 50 years ago, will be revolutionary for many people," Senzon noted. "This volume shows a consistency in his spiritual writings that has never been presented in such a fashion. My hope is that the reader will enjoy them as I have."

"The Spiritual Writings of B.J. Palmer" has won praise from readers, including John Reizer, DC, a 1986 magna cum laude graduate of Sherman College and author of the books "Chiropractic Made Simple" and "Up And Running: Opening A Chiropractic Office."

"I found this book to be very enjoyable and learned about a spiritual side of BJ Palmer which was previously unknown to me," said Dr. Reizer. "I believe that chiropractors and students of chiropractic would benefit from reading this book due to the fact that the text will provide for them a source of inspiration along with a better understanding of what chiropractic has to offer human beings from both a biological and spiritual perspective."

 What readers are saying about
"The Spiritual Writings of B.J. Palmer"

"B.J. Palmer was a genius between worlds, in an era without a culture to support his concepts.  Simon Senzon, DC, adeptly weaves the spiritual strands of the developer of chiropractic's colorful philosophical writings into a modern tapestry of consciousness and spirituality. Senzon presents BJ's perspective in a new framework for all to stand back and say ‘ahhhhhhhhh’” -- Donald Epstein, D.C.

"'The Spiritual Writings of B.J. Palmer= gave me fresh insights into the life of this remarkable man.  More significantly, it shows how big an idea chiropractic is.  An added treat is the collection of photographs contained in the book.  I'm sure you will enjoy it.@ -- Dr. Christopher Kent, DC, Chiropractic Leadership Alliance

"The philosophy of chiropractic is in need of scholarly examination, explication and development. Simon Senzon brings to BJ Palmer's writings a love of chiropractic and a commitment to its essential principles, as well as a lively analysis informed by wide study in the discipline of philosophy. This book makes BJ Palmer's spiritual writings more accessible to the average reader and also provides astute commentary. I am pleased to have such a resource for use in educating the chiropractors of the future; it is
time that the chiropractic scholarly community get on with the intellectual work required to grow our philosophy. Thanks for taking on the challenge, Simon." -- Ashley Cleveland, D.C.

"This book provides an incredible glimpse into B.J.'s mind and soul. By understanding him better, we understand his vision of chiropractic better as well." --Terry A. Rondberg, DC, President of the World Chiropractic Alliance

"Dr. Senzon's book is timely, considering the move in health care towards addressing spiritual issues and mind/body medicine. There are few books that explore these topics for our profession to look to, so his book is must reading for chiropractic students, faculty and practitioners." -- Matthew McCoy, DC, editor, Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research.

"Simon's book is absolutely essential for any DC who loves chiropractic; it gives you the meat of BJ without all the tedious repetition. It=s a must-have book."  -- Michael S. McLean, DC, International Chiropractors Association

"Simon beautifully depicts BJ's search for spiritual truth and wisdom. He outlines his spiritual growth and development and how this process influenced its impact into the chiropractic philosophy and practice. This work allows us a window into the mind of this eccentric icon of chiropractic and challenges us to find our own spiritual connection to our practice. It is a "must read" for every chiropractor.  It is one of the most significant works in historic and philosophical development of our profession." -- Peter Kevorkian, DC and Patti Giuliano, DC

“Dr. Senzon has written the first serious analysis of B. J.'s writings from a spiritual perspective. Senzon puts his Masters in philosophy and doctoral work to good use in taking a deep, rigorous look at the metaphysical side of B. J.'s work. Students of B. J. and of chiropractic history will enjoy the way Senzon has gathered relevant quotes together in a coherent form. Those interested in scholarly analysis of the philosophy of chiropractic will get great value from Senzon's insightful commentaries at the end of the book. A "must read" for students of the philosophy of chiropractic, and in my opinion the definitive treatment of the spiritual side of chiropractic philosophy.” -- Brian McAulay, D.C., Ph.D.

“It is rare that we are given the opportunity to follow any person’s spiritual voyage into the mystical realms of saints and healers. B.J. Palmer, however, shared this remarkable journey with us through 8,000 pages of writings between 1949 and 1961. Simon Senzon has done the work of making these easily accessible by sifting through the great mass of work and lifting out the gems of wisdom that are the markers of Palmer’s extraordinary passage. Thank you Dr. Senzon!” -- Dr. Allan Combs, Ph.D., author of "The Radiance of Being, and Syncronicity."

"It is an absolute masterpiece. Amazingly, how deep and thorough B.J. has been, and how fresh his thought of 60 and more years ago, are. If only some of the world leaders have known it... 60 years and more and it still sounds so accurate. I add my recommendation" -- Dr. Ronen Mandelzis, Israel
